You'll start of with good hoplites in limited numbers and absolutely crap everything else. Now you have very small numbers of your elite troops, forcing you to pay attention to the population growths and how they are effected by buildings (never really had to do this with any other faction before).

This gave Sparta what many called the 300 fanboy feel and put a lot players who value historical accuracy off using them.Īdd in the population system, unit overhaul and AOR system. also their light and cav units were on a par with the other greek states. completely ignoring the historical context of Sparta's dwindling population. In the core game you could just spam stack after stack of royal/hero hoplites and easily expand. However, after thinking about this I now think Sparta really shows how good DeI is.

So I saw a post a while back saying that the changes to the ardiaei really highlight how good this mod is, changing a nothing faction with a tiny roster into a great mix of two cultures with a unique feature in the form of their piracy.
